PMA Webinar 2022: “Shining the light on public health”
Updates / Events, 30 Jun 22
The Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) are starting their series of webinars this year with the first one themed - ‘Shining the light on Public Health’ – where experienced medical professionals in this space talanoa about their field to colleagues and students.

Etu Pasifika Auckland board member and Director of Pacific Health at the Waitematā DHB, Dr Josephine Aumea Herman, will offer her insights as one of the panel speakers.

“Public Health is the art and science of preventing ill health amongst our population. As part of the webinar, we want to offer a scope or spectrum of specialties that our young Pacific health professionals can consider for the future.

The health needs for Pacific people are quite broad and we need experts in a whole range of specialties; we want to provide an aspect of this, which is Public Health”, says Dr Herman.

Dr Herman looks forward to sharing at the webinar and is excited about the opportunity to have young health professionals be a part of the conversation.

“I’m excited to share about the experiences in my career path and about the importance of public health and what’s happening in New Zealand, the Pacific region and around the world.

The webinar allows us to engage with our young Pacific health professionals. I’m always interested in hearing their thoughts and what they think is relevant for them and their generation.”

She reiterates the importance of having spaces like the webinar to exchange ideas and thoughts as a means of servicing our Pacific people.

“Public Health and preventative medicine are things that need to be strongly advocated. Having more of us in the preventative arm of health is so important to try and slow down the disease burden for our Pacific people.”

The PMA Pasifika Health Leaders Webinar - ‘Shining the light on Public Health’ - will be live on Zoom next week Wednesday 06 July, 2022 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
