PMA Webinar: 'The Changing Face of Health Practitioners'
Updates / Events, 10 Nov 22
The Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) is hosting their second Pasifika Health Leaders Webinar next week, with a focus on Health Practitioners. The PMA webinars give students and colleagues an opportunity to engage in a talanoa with experienced medical professionals about their field of work.

The webinar will feature guest speakers who will offer insights into the theme - ‘The Changing Face of Health Practitioners: Strengthening the Pacific Voice’ - as well as speaking to their own individual journey.

President of the Pasifika Physiotherapy Association and PMA Member, Lilo Oka Sanerivi, will be one of the webinar speakers and comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

“I recognise that I’m in amongst the changing face of Health Practitioners. As the first Pasifika Physiotherapy Head of Department at a DHB in Aotearoa, I’ve seen the urgent need for Pasifika Leadership across these spaces.

Through this talanoa, I aim to offer hope to others around their personal pursuit of the call to service and the aspiration for excellence in healthcare delivery for our people.”

Mr Sanerivi looks forward to being on the webinar panel and connecting with the wider PMA community.

“I look forward to sharing my story, connecting with the wider PMA family and learning from other speakers and participants.

Opportunities to gather from across the motu in these webinars is very important. Sharing our trials and triumphs is a powerful way to honour the truth of our own experience and simultaneously affirm and inspire others along their journey.”

He encourages current and aspiring health professionals to come together and tune in to next week’s webinar.

“Come and hear about how someone who took three attempts to be admitted to Physio School became the first Pasifika Physio to deliver a lecture at that school, the first Pasifika Board Member on the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand and the first Pasifika Physio PhD candidate in Aotearoa.”

The PMA Pasifika Health Leaders Webinar will take place Wednesday 16 November 2022 from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. The webinar will be available online via zoom and hosted in person across Auckland, Waikato, Tauranga, Wellington and Dunedin. For more information or to register, click here.
